Detailed Notes:

  • Meeting called to order at 6:03
  • Introduction of all present
  • Review of September minutes.  Motion to approve, Tammy F.  Second, Kathy. W.  Approved.
  • Review of current budget and spending
  • Discussion around who has the ability to sign checks for PTA.  As stated in bylaws, when new president is elected, that person has responsibility to sign checks for the group.  Kevin Tong is no longer able to sign checks.  President Tina Tong and treasurer Jennifer Brady may sign PTA checks.
  • DQ fundraisers are continuing on the last Wednesday of the month.  We earn 10% of sales from 5 – 8 pm.  Flyer coming home in folders.
  • Popcorn Friday is running.  Teachers sign up in staff dining room.  Great response from parents to help pop popcorn.
  • Fine Dining–ROAR tickets are being collected.  Prizes are hanging in display case in lobby.  Request to tally the number of tickets given each month.
  • Bylaws
    • Motion to approve change #1 to bylaws: Current Language: Article VII – Officers and their election, Section 4: Officers shall assume their official duties following the close of the meeting in July and shall serve for a term of 1 year or until their successors are elected.
    • Proposed Change: Officers shall assume their official duties following the close of the meeting in July and shall serve for a term of 1 year or until a successor is elected or the officer is re-elected to the current position.Motion by Tammy F.  Second, Jenny H.
    • Motion to approve change #2 to bylaws: Current Language: Article VII – Officers and their election, Section 4: A person shall not be eligible to serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office.
    • Proposed Change:  A person shall be eligible to serve more than two consecutives terms in the same office.  That person must be re-nominated for the office at the end of each term and the regular election procedures followed.Motion by Kathy W.  Second, Tammy F.  Approved.
  • Audit Committee – Need to have two officers sign bank statements for insurance purposes.  Accountant reviews books each year.  No current need for special committee to review statements.
  • Discussion around PTA purchasing of technology
    • Concern that it is over-taking our budget.
    • Other PTAs set a percentage or designate one fundraiser as a technology fundraiser.
    • Are current iPads being used in every class?
    • Do we need a line item for technology maintenance?
    • Need to continue to discuss this idea.  What is the right amount of technology for us to fund?
  • Motion to approve $2580 for purchase of 6 iPads for new first grade classroom if there are no available iPads in the building.  First, determine if some teachers are not using them and can provide iPads for the first grade classroom.  Motion by Tammy F.  Second by Sara B.
  • Signage for event.  Recommendations for local printers to make signs for bingo and carnival.
  • Donations needed:  Storage shed continues to be an issue.  Look for volunteer(s) to build shelving for unit.
  • Holiday Shoppe–Items coming over on Dec. 10.  Shop is Dec. 11 & 12.
  • Tammy F and Jenny H will run a fall spirit wear to be delivered in time for holidays.
  • Teacher Update
    • Thank you for conference dinner
    • Please let teachers know the date of spring dinner earlier
    • Star Lab is coming again this year
  • Principal Update
    • Thank you for fall conference dinner
    • MobyMax is being used across grades.  Teachers will let families know how.
    • 97% of parents came to Parent Teacher Conferences
    • Halloween Parade is at 2pm on Oct. 31st
    • Math Nights for families are happening
    • School will have turkey bingo in class on Nov. 26
    • Bond Vote will be May 19, 2015
